Students and Staff Observe Chilembwe Day

Every year on 15th January, Malawians across the country commemorate Chilembwe Day, a significant national holiday that pays tribute to Reverend John Chilembwe, one of Malawi’s earliest and most influential heroes. Reverend Chilembwe is remembered for his bold leadership and unwavering stance against colonial injustice during the early 1900s. His actions, though met with great resistance, ignited a spirit of courage and nationalism that would later inspire Malawi’s journey towards independence in 1964. Chilembwe Day is more than a public holiday; it is a moment for reflection. It encourages Malawians, especially the youth, to appreciate the sacrifices made for freedom and to uphold values such as integrity, equality, and responsibility in nation-building. As we commemorate this day, we are reminded that the progress of our nation depends on citizens who are committed to positive change, respect for human dignity, and the pursuit of justice. May the legacy of Reverend John Chilembwe continue to inspire us to work together for a peaceful, united, and prosperous Malawi. Happy Chilembwe Day to all.
